GNSA Announces New District Coordinator

The Greater North Soccer Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Samuel Martins as our new District Referee Coordinator. Mr. Martins brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in officiating at various levels of the game. He will be contacting all clubs to assess needs.

Giving support and guidance to all our game officials is of primary importance so they remain in the game and develop to their potential.

"I am pleased to serve as the District Referee Coordinator for the Greater North Soccer Association. I am an Ontario Soccer Level 6 referee with over seven years of experience officiating at the provincial, university, and regional levels. I also have a strong background in referee mentorship and development",

said Martins.

"My focus as DRC is on referee recruitment, education, and support across the Greater North district. I look forward to working collaboratively with referees, clubs, assignors, and Ontario Soccer to promote consistency, professionalism, and fair play throughout the region."

Referee Training Coming to Your Area

GNSA is the host organization for 4 Entry Level courses across our district this spring:

Sudbury Region: Saturday, April 18, Lasalle Secondary School 8:30am – 5:00pm - including on-field session at the Lancer Dome

from 12:00pm – 3:00pm

Sault Ste. Marie, Saturday May 09, Northern Community Centre 8:30am – 5:00pm including the on-field session at from 12:00 – 3:00pm.  NOW FULL

North Bay:  Sunday May 24 - (New date) 08:30am - 5:00pm    Canadore College Panthers Sportsplex 60 Commerce Crescent     11 spots left

Timmins:  Saturday May 30, Timmins High School 9:00am – 5:00pm including the on-field session at from 12:00pm – 3:00pm.  14 spots left

The sessions are hard capped at 25 students.

Students must be 14 years of age or older by March 31, 2026.

  • Attendance: Full attendance required (no exceptions).
  • Total Duration: 7 hrs
  • In Class (4 hrs)
  • On Field (3 hrs)
  • Badge Distribution: Referee badge provided at end of session.

Considering the current situations in certain areas with respect to non-Ontario Soccer registered clubs, the Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and North Bay clinics are ”Private”, initially.

Participants register/sign up through the Ontario Soccer Website https://www.ontariosoccer.net/referee-clinics

The total cost to registrants is $140.00. When registering they will be directed to Canada Soccer. The self guided learning modules administered by Canada Soccer, through the Smarter U platform, at a cost of $30. Practical Session registration cost is $110. Payment is by e-transfer to admin@gnsa.ca

Each student MUST have a stand-alone email address to link their Smarter U module learning with their Ref Centre account to register for the Practical in-person training once modules are completed. Parents and guardians cannot use 1 email address for multiple users/students.
